Teenage Acne and Self Esteem

It is a very common fact that looks matters in today’s world. Often we see that to improve their looks or go for a complete makeover is compelling the youngsters to go to any extent. In fact looks have become so important in the contemporary age that one makes all the efforts to get away with the marks that appear with even a small rash or pimple developing on the face.
It is often seen that the teens who suffer from depression because of their looks have gone through terrible consequences. In the present times looks are given more value than the inner being of any person. Some teenagers can even become bulimic or anorexic because of their distorted looks. Many a time’s kids are also seen to be hiding or restricting themselves from social gatherings. All these situations develop in the people of different stages when the pressure of looking ‘good’ is forced upon them.
Acne is one of the very common skin problems that can be seen in individuals of all ages. It is very true that the development of acne can have a detrimental effect on one’ self-esteem. It seems to be magnified during the delicate phase of teenage. When a patient suffers from acne he/she tends to loose self-confidence and is quite embarrassed in facing the mob. As the skin condition deteriorates within the stretch of time often people becomes embarrassed in front of their friends and colleagues.
Some researches carried out at the American Academy of Dermatology has proved that 95% of the American population suffers from the acne breakouts during the delicate phase of their teenage. Some of the kids are seen to be hiding the problem by artificial colors; hats and longer styles while some of them prefer to stay aloof. Since the acne breakouts happen amongst the teenage group so frequently in their adolescence period they fear that they are mocked at by their peers.
There are also some parents who seem to make the child even more afraid of the whole thing. It should always be noted that the acne breakouts get even worse after the first breakout and then tend to heal over a considerable stretch of time. The gradual realization dawns upon the teen that it is probably a passing phase and in this regard his/her self-esteem also does not get hurt. Support from near and dear ones are extremely important at this point of time. Offering gentle support help can work wonder at this stage. In fact the whole thing has a very harsh effect one the mental set-up of a person.
Beloved ones can provide consolation to the young ones by saying that this is just a temporary phase, which will pass over in the due course of time. In the most strenuous cases supportive psychotherapy and counseling can help to an extreme extent. The people who deal with such teenage acne issues can actually clear up their skin. Self-esteem should also be taken proper care of and dealt with much attention.
